Description
Disposable Barber Razors – This is an easy way to try out how it feel to shave with a straight razor. A disposable straight razor doesn’t need honing or stropping. You simply change blades when they turn dull. If you’ve never used a straight razor before, this is a very good (and cheap) practice tool. If you like it, and decide that straight razor shaving is really your cup of tea, then you can always move on to an expensive extra-everything straight razor in a couple of months.
A disposable Straight Razor is often sharper than a conventional straight razor, depending on which blades you use. It is hard, almost impossible, to hone a conventional straight razor to the same sharpness as a razor blade. This is one reason why public barbershops are using disposable straight razors, however, the hygiene aspect is the determining factor.
This disposable straight razors uses standard double edge razor blades. If you are a beginner, start with a “less sharp” blade, such as Merkur Super Platinum. Potential shaving nicks will only be shallow with these blades. After that, move on to Derby or Solingen Timor, which are “middle sharp”. When you are totally confident in your shaving skills, put a Feather blade in the cartridge, the sharpest blade of them all.
Technique – 3 things to remember before starting:
1. Most importantly, use the hand not holding the razor to stretch the skin during shaving
2. Hold the edge of the razor at a 30 degree angle to the skin (think 90 degrees to the skin, and take a third of that. Much easier!)
3. Don’t worry about cuts. A straight razor looks lethal, but will be your best buddy when handled correctly!
